Study - 40's Style House

Creamy vanilla paint covers the wall in the study. Again the vintage drapery panels provided the inspiration; the soft color swaths the room in a soothing glow. The ice cream hue continues the theme seen in the rest of the house.

The same style of drapery treatment is used in the study as in the bedroom. This time the vintage panels have a creamy ground with exotic white blooms. With bamboo rods and rattan blinds, the mood is decidedly tropical. Now all that is needed are the warm trade winds.

The writing desk is a garage sale find. A mere $20 was all it took. The desk could originally be found in a hotel room. Its smaller scale works well in the study. The fluting on the legs adds a touch of detail to this very straightforward design.

A rattan screen completes the tropical feel in the study. Screens are a practical decorative item that have many uses. The most obvious function is that of a room divider. But they also add interest and texture to a room. Screens can flank windows instead of drapery and add dimension to a wide expanse of wall.
