I recently completed a new interior design project in Palm Springs.   My client’s collection of Pop Art was the starting point for this project.  The 1960′s bold patterns and shapes add a vibrant touch to a standard townhouse. 

To add texture, I replaced the builder’s-quality tile fireplace surround.  Stacked stone with disappearing stone shelves and columnar detail create a dramatic focal point for the room.

The backgrounds were purposely kept simple – a blank canvas for showcasing the punch of pattern and color.

The original oatmeal carpeting was kept and cleaned, but now the seating is anchored with a giant houndstooth dhurry rug.  Putting pattern underfoot is a great way to accessorize in a bold, non-permanent way.

Chalky white walls recede, better able to showcase the bright and powerful artwork.

The 1970′s smoked-glass dining table was languishing in an estate sale shop.  Now it has pride of place in the dining area flanked by a series of lithe-limbed Scandinavian arm chairs.
